Hobbit lesson

I recently watched Hobbit and I can't help to share some lessons I learn from it. Yes, Tokkien might have some subtle Christian theme there but let me point a few from my perspective..

1) GOD CAN USE THE MEEK
Hobbits are small in size, gentle in their nature. With a large quest ahead, it seems that the right person in Gandalf's mind is Bilbo. Many cannot see the logic behind it.

When Gandalf was asked by Galadriel why he chose Bilbo, he said "“Simple acts of kindness and love keep dark things at bay… Perhaps it is because I am afraid, and he gives me courage"

It's amazing how simple things/people in life can make a huge difference. So never underestimate yourself. Never looked down on yourself.. who knows you can be a world-changer, someone who make a massive impact to this world.

It's true that it also says in the Bible :- "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth." - Matthew 5:5

2) GOD WILL CHALLENGE US TO GO BEYOND OUR COMFORT ZONE
Bilbo always live a simple and happy life, in his own house and doesn't like people to bother him. Till Gandalf came and challenge him to follow him on an adventure. Not enough, Gandalf sets up a meeting at Bilbo's home.. much to Bilbo's annoyance. After much coaxing, Bilbo joined Gandalf and the Dwafts on their quest to reclaim their land.

It's a life lesson for some of us.. we are always comfortable with what we are doing. There will be times when God will challenge us to live a life that is beyond our comfort zone.

We can learn to put our faith and trust in God when we step out. Moreover, we have a God who is able!

3) GOLD/RICHES IS NOT EVERYTHING
The Dwarf king Thror has everything in his kingdom.. gold and jewelries.. so much that it drives him insane and greedy. Till Smaug the dragon came and wipe out everything.. including chasing the whole kingdom out. All of the sudden, the king has lost all his riches to the dragon who is actually as greedy as him.. choosing to dwell and bath in the riches of the king.

It just sad that it actually a true reflection of today's world. People are so into their riches that they don't care things around them and would do anything to get it.

4) DON'T BE CLINGY TO TEMPORARY THINGS
"my preccccioussss"... seems like a haunting but fun quote. But really, in our lives, we have lots of things that we called "my precccciousss". When Gollum/Smeagol lost his ring to Bilbo, he just went nuts. Searching hi and low for it. Crying and cursing, depress and heartbroken.
How clingy can we be to things of the world? I m not surprise sometimes seeing people get so depress when their priced procession is lost or taken away.

Personally, I recommend this movie.. one of the top movies of 2012. The movie might be 3 hours but if you able to survive it, it's awesome stuff.

And the movie makes me wanna rewatch LOTR trilogy all over again... hehehe
